George Thomas Thompson 75 Oblong died Saturday February 2, 2002 at Crawford Memorial Hospital Robinson following a long period of poor health. He was born November 12, 1926 near Ft. Branch in Gibson County, Indiana. He was the son of Bernie Thompson and Velma Hume. He was married to Mary Ellen Matzel who died February 1, 1987. George then married Norma Taylor in 1988. She survives George was a service technician for Sears in Robinson until his retirement in 1988. He was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Oblong. George's hobbies included fishing, Indiana basketball, gardening and listening to gospel music. Among the many instruments that he could play where the guitar and the piano.
George is survived by his wife Norma; 2 sons and daughters-in-laws Tom & Cheri Thompson and Terry & Cathy Thompson; 2 grandchildren Leslie & Keith Hites and Beth Johnson; 3 great grandchildren Diamond Johnson, Colton and Kelsey Hites; brother and sister-in-law Bernard & Ruth Thompson; sister Florence Bump; 3 step sons and step daughters-in-laws Ronnie & Glenda Allen, Bart Allen and Todd and Vicki Allen; 2 step daughters and stepsons-in-laws Connie & Steve Ames and Judy Johnson; 9 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents; first wife; 2 granddaughters (Bobbie Jo Thompson and Julie Wampler) and 1 sister Pauline Romerhousen.
Burial will be in Owensville Cemetery, Owensville, Indiana.
